Kanan Gill, Stand Up Comedian, Writer, Film Maker; Mohit Chauhan, singer, most known for his work as a playback singer for Bollywood movies as well as the former front-man of the Indipop band Silk Route; Lost Stories(Artists)– an EDM duo who said to  have the support of 8 of the top 10 DJs in the world are among the few whose performances will be featured during the two day Carpediem Fest.

Hyderabad, February 28….Carpediem–VII, the god of all campus events is back with bang.  The biggest Technical & Cultural Fest of South India will be held on April 10 and 11th at CBIT here in city outskirts.

Addressing a press conference here in city, the Student Body of Chaitanya Bharathi Institute of Technology disclosed that the most awaited Biannual College Fest  will see the line up of Concert, Tech Expo, Jugaad, Seminars, Hackathon, Rapid Prototyping, Design Thinking Workshop, Fashion Show, Comedy, Dance, DJ Night, Singing, Band Performance, gigs, literary events etc.

The footfall is expected to be minimum of 15000 from over 50 plus colleges informed Roopesh Naidu, President of the Student Body of CBIT

Addressing a Curtain Raiser Press Conference at its Campus held on Saturday, Dr. B. Chennakeshava Rao, Principal of the college said the objective of the fest is to help students learn by doing. Improve their organizing skills, marketing skills etc.  The main objective is to help them excel in exctracurricular as well as Co Curricular activities, he said.

Giving details about Conclave of Speakers, Ms. Bala Sahithya, who heads Conclave of Speakers said every great person has a story to tell, a story to inspire, a story so strong that it will make you believe that nothing is impossible.  Coming straight from the horse’s mouth, the amazing journeys of these conquerors, will give a great learning experience to the participants.  We have lined up five themes, which include: 01. You and Sports; 02. Youth and Entrepreneurship, 03. Youth and Social Media, 04. You & Governance and others she said.

Some of the speakers who consented include J.A. Chowdary of Talent Sprint; Ms. Honey Bajaj, Story Teller and Design Thinker;  Manjula Naidu, Telugu TV Serials Director; Ramana Gogula, Tollywood Music Director; Ramesh Loganathan, President of HYSEA and other are expected to speak in the Speakers Conclave informed Bala.

Roopesh Naidu said, Carpediem, means “seize the moment’. It will have a unique event “Makers Space” which will be the platform where industries meet the Creators directly. It is an initiative for young for all young innovators to showcase their creations which will orchestrate the atmosphere and provide platform for people to interact and collaborate.   In nutshell, it is an event of innovation, creation which when applied will help improve the present world he said.

Speaking further he added that the Fest Carpediem is the brainchild of our alumni who are now successful in every sector. It was born several years ago.  Now it is in its 7th edition.  Every two years we strive for the success of the fest, and pull it off in a grand fashion.

Nagaraju Redla who is in charge of Technical Fest said this is the first time Technical and Cultural Festival is organised together.  The Makers Space which will have Tech Expo; Projects Expo and Auto Expo.  Nearly 50 projects are expected to be showcased, develop ideas, pitch for funding.  It will also have Ideate—a platform for Ideation, where one can stage their ideas, exhibit technologies and models.  A Design Thinking Workshop, Start Up Weekend; Hackathon—Hacking Competition etc will be held.

The journey of Carpediem started small in 2002 by a group of students. Today it is an event many students look forward to. The budget of this event is expected to cross about Rs 75 lakhs, which we are hopeful of raising from sponsorship. This is besides the support we receive in kind.  The entry will be through a pass. The details of which is being worked out, said Nagaraju.

This fest is the amalgamation of education and creativity. It is with a sense of pride that we can all it the ‘Best’ fest at a college level. We break boundaries, push limits, broaden horizon, work ourselves to the point of breaking informed Aneesh Reddy Bizzul, Vice President.  Carpediem is one of a kind and the attention it receives proves it. Students are the organizers of the fest. It will be great learning experience for all its participants, she said.

Giving details of the Carnival, Jishnu M. Dantu, who is incharge of the Carnival said “tradition of a Carnival in Colleges Festival began at CBIT in the year 2002”.  Now every fest includes a Carnival. Now we want to bring a change. This year as part of the Carpediem, a team of five students will represent some of the major carnivals of the world. The carnivals which will be showcased include Rio Carnival, Paris-de-Carnival, Chinese Dragon Festival; Goan Carnival; Russian Carnival, Thai Carnival, Belgian Carnival, I biza(Spain) Carnival and many others informed Jishnu.  The Carpediem Carnival has something for everyone.  It will hae massive masquerade bands, spectacular costumes; pulsating music.

The other attractions include Laugh It Out. Come laugh your worries away for a while. Give yourself a break. Rib tickling performances by artists, Stand Up Comedy etc will enthrall the participants.  Other event include March Madness; Verve The Fashion Show; Kill The Beat—The Group Dance Competition; Reel Steel—Short Film Making; Couch Bags—Sitcom Quiz; Scavenge—The Treasure Hunt; Piscel—Photography Contest; Pro Gaming; Sherlocked—Crime Scenes; Bull Ride; Tug of War.  There will be stalls, Photo Booth, Arcade Gaming etc.

Giving student’s perspective of such festival Abdur Rahim said these festival are very important. Along with studies we need to have social skills. Festivals like these help us learn, gain knowledge, interact with peers, learn from each other and also network.  I am looking forward to the event he said.
