Producer of critically acclaimed movies A Wednesday, Charas, and of “The Master – Shyam Benegal” Anjum Rizvi was accompanied by Sharbani Mukherjee at screening along with the Sai Pranjpaye, Kalpana Lajmi and Khalid Mohammad, Govind Namdeo were present.
The 95-minute tribute by film critic Khalid Mohamed looks at the stalwart director’s oeuvre right from his ad films and films,Ankur, Nishant and Manthan to the TV series Bharat Ek Khoj and Samvidhaan which is being telecast currently. Mohamed, who considers Benegal a mentor, had written the stories and screenplays of Mammo, Sardari Begum and Zubeidaa for Benegal.
Completed after two years, The Master, has been jointly produced by Khalid Mohamed and Anjum Rizvi. Among those who have worked with Benegal, the documentary features Shabana Azmi, Javed Akhtar, Karisma Kapoor, Manoj Bajpayee, Om Puri, Rajat Kapur, Raageshwari Sachdev, Divya Dutta, Sachin Khedekar, Surekha Sikri, Ila Arun, Minissha Lamba, Govind Nihalani, Girish Karnad, Anant Nag, Nina Gupta, Pallavi Joshi, Vanraj Bhatia and Govind Nihalani.

Asiatic Society of Mumbai has lined up many events ranging from walks, exhibitions and screenings to discussions, to delight the cinephile inaugurated today with the premier screening of Khalid Mohamed’s ‘The Master: Shyam Benegal’
Mohamed’s other documentaries will also be screened- Little Big People and The Last Irani Chai to end the festival. In between, there will be several discussions and screenings about Mumbai through the cinematic lens, cinema halls and Marathi Cinema.
