New Delhi : With an endeavour to nurture the sense of Indianness amongst the youth and to commemorate the principles of Mahatma Gandhi, the Flag Foundation of India organizes the ‘Sadbhavna Sandhya- Mahatma Ke Path Par’ programme at the India Gate lawns on the occasion of Martyr’s Day. With a mass gathering of over 20,000 patriotic Indians led by eminent personalities like John Abraham, Gagan Narang, Amjad Ali Khan, Sunidhi Chauhan, Sharmila Tagore, Raveena Tandon, Sushil Kumar, Yuvraj Singh, Amman and Ayaan Ali Bangash, Vilas Nayak and others, the programme pays tribute to the Father of the Nation and his ideals of patriotism.
To be compered by actor Annu Kapoor, the ‘Sadbhavna Sandhya- Mahatma Ke Path Par’ programme will bring together thousands of people from across the country who will join in to observe a minute’s silence to honour the great Mahatma, who sacrificed his life for the nation’s freedom struggle. Also at the event, people from all walks of life are likely to join hands to form a human chain and chant ‘Raghupati Raghav, Raja Ram’ remembering the Father of the Nation and the Gandhian values.
The programme will mark the culmination of the Flag Week Celebration organised by the Foundation on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the historic judgement by the Supreme Court on January 23, 2004, to a PIL filed by Shri Naveen Jindal, which stated that hoisting the National Flag is a fundamental right of every citizen of the country.
Starting off with the hoisting of a monumental flag measuring 207 ft. at the National Military Memorial at Bengaluru and a similar 100 ft. flag being hoisted at Bhagwan Mahavir Park, Jodhpur; the Flag Week Celebration has been a sincere effort to rekindle the spirit of nationalism amongst the citizens of the country.
