The 22nd edition of the annual Lakshminarayana Global Music Festival was held across six cities in India from the 27th of 
December to the 9th of January.
The tour featured Dr. L. Subramaniam, Kavita Krishnamurti Subramaniam, Hubert Laws, Oystein Baadsvik and SubraMania (Bindu and Ambi Subramaniam).
Ambi’s solo showpiece, “Make it Count” displayed a prowess and command over his instrument.
Bindu and Ambi’s soulful collaboration “Days in the Sun” was an instant hit. They entertained the audience with the story of how their band came to be called SubraMania (Dr. Subramaniam’s name was misprinted as Subramaniac in Russia, which led them to adopt the name).
Kavita Krishnamurti Subramaniam, who has always been a favorite of Indian audiences peppered her set with reminiscences and dedicated songs to the late Manna Dey and Farooq Sheikh. The suprise composition at the end of her set was “Shadow of Your Smile” featuring Hubert Laws and Oystein Baadsvik.
Hubert Laws, arguably the greatest Jazz-Classical flautist today enthralled audiences with improvised pieces, and a duet (“We’re in Ecstasy”) which he sang with Bindu Subramaniam.
Oystein Baadsvik, the world’s first solo tuba player had the audience clapping and cheering for his performance, especially his composition Fnugg (meaning snowflake in Norwegian). Bindu and Oystein also presented a jazz composition.
The highlight of the show was undoubtedly Dr. L. Subramaniam whose new compositions and collaborations with the other artists was both dramatic and spellbinding. The finale, “Chasing the Field”, a new composition by Dr. Subramaniam featuring all the other artists brought every audience to it’s feet for a rousing standing ovation.
The festival was presented to packed venues around the country with 35,000 people at Alleppey beach and music lovers sitting in the aisles, on the floor and in stairwells in New Delhi and Bangalore.
The LGMF was started in 1992 by Dr. L. Subramaniam in the memory of his late father and guru Professor V. Lakshminarayana and has held concerts in 55 cities across 22 countries, and for audiences of up to 200,000 people at a single event.
