Actor Salman Khan appeared before the Mumbai Sessions Court today for a fresh trial in connection with the 2002 hit and run case. The court has adjourned the hearing till 24th of this month, when charges are likely to be framed against him.
A Mumbai sessions court ruled in June that the actor must be tried for culpable homicide not amounting for murder in the case — a serious charge under IPC which attracts 10 years’ punishment in jail.
Earlier, Salman was tried by Bandra metropolitan magistrate court for a lesser charge of rash and negligent act causing death, under section 304 A of IPC, which attracts two years of imprisonment.
One person was killed and four others were injured when the Land Cruiser, allegedly driven by Salman Khan, ran over a group of people sleeping on the pavement outside a bakery in suburban Bandra on September 28, 2002.
