Every individual has a passion, but for some, the passion remains a hobby for a lifetime, while for some, it becomes their future. Vanshdeep Sisodia is one such talented artist, whose dream was drawn from his passion but was different in reality. Passionate for photography, Vanshdeep inculcated his interest in filmmaking two and a half years ago while practicing photography. Earlier Vanshdeep believed, “Filmmaking is highly intensive and time taking. The heavy equipment and work is not something that excites me.”
Vansheep somehow connected to photography as it took him less time to edit and upload the picture as compared to filmmaking which involved planning, shooting, and then pro-level editing. Along with this, the time constKith filmmaking was more if seen from Vansh’s perspective because being a photographer his idea was to walk out of the house and capture the moments in his camera, unlike filmmaking which captures the moments in a more systematic way.
However, during his journey as a photographer, Vanshdeep always strived to find a creative edge in his work and further explore the artistic domain. In this search, he witnessed the most dramatic and drastic change in himself which was an inclination to filmmaking. This inclination was provoked by the videos of Sam Kolder and the vast arena of creative opportunities that filmmaking offered acted as a catalyst for the same. Vanshdeep then decided to make videos and take a dive into the deep sea of creative filmmaking.

In no time, Vanshdeep found his true calling and he switched to full-time filmmaking. Initially, it was his phone that was his companion rather true guide in every video. Then he borrowed cameras for shooting travel videos, followed by shooting for brands. Vanshdeep’s hard work and determination paid off when he got the opportunity to work with international brands like RealME, One Plus, and Cordelia Cruise along with covering Lakme Fashion Week and visiting Abu Dabi as a content creator from India.
However, when we chose the ‘Road not taken!”, there are many hurdles that catch us off-guard. As for Vanshdeep, the first major hurdle during the start of his filmmaking journey was the platform of videos. Since YouTube was the only platform that catered to the needs of professional filmmakers, Vanshdeep had to work on long videos and the response to his first video was disheartening. Though highly challenging, both professionally and psychologically, Vanshdeep kept on working. Then, with the help of his senior, Mayank borrowed his camera and spent 20 days shooting in Bhopal and 10 days on its editing before release. This video was the knight in shining armor for Vanshdeep, within days, it became viral and earned a viewership of 1.5 lakhs. Finding motivation through this, Vanshdeep started educating himself with tips and tricks of filmmaking along with different editing tools and their most efficient use.
In the words of Vanshdeep, “I am still working to find my signature style but with the coming of reels, the game has changed drastically. The attention span of people has decreased from a few minutes of YouTube videos to 30 seconds of reels. So, it is important to share the core idea within 30 seconds otherwise it’s time waste for someone else.” The shift from long cinematic videos to short vertical reels is a challenge since being a filmmaker poses the question of choosing the main ideas that are to be communicated while working on both formats of videos and reels. “Even if you upload a cinematic video on the reel, it will be called a reel and its true essence will not be understood”, says Vanshdeep.
With the changing times and requirements of the people, Vanshdeep has made a promising change in himself too. No matter how difficult it is to choose between horizontal and vertical filming, Vanshdeep makes it a point to analyze, interpret and bring into action his ideas.
