Mumbai: Manna Dey was the last surviving male playback singer from the Golden Age of film music. With his recent death at the age of 94, an important era of Hindi film music has come to an end. Shemaroo pays tribute to the great legend and releases Shraddhanjali : Manna Dey – Yaari Hai Imaan Mera … & Other Hits a song compilation DVD featuring original videos of hindi film songs.
Even though Mohd. Rafi, Mukesh & later Kishore Kumar always remained the popular choices for the leading actors, Manna Dey had succeded in creating his own niche and style. He was almost unbeatable at songs with a classical base and touch. And he was amazing at being versatile and did equal justice to his songs whether he sang for the hero, the comedian or the character artiste. He remained active till the end and sang with the same zest & enthusiasm while performing at musical concerts.
Shraddhanjali: Manna Dey features several moods of Manna Dey like “Chalat Musafir Moh Liyo Re..” from Teesri Kasam, “Pyar Hua Ikrar Hua Hai” from Shree 420, “Aye Mere Pyare Watan.. “ from Kabuliwala, “Jhanak Jhanak Tori Baaje Paayaliya” from Mere Huzoor, “Gori Tori Paijaniyan” from Mehbooba to his evergreen “Yaari Hai Imaan Mera” from Zanjeer.
