Movies always have a stronger impact on audiences. Bollywood has time and again come up with many memorable movies which have been appreciated by many cinema lovers across the world. However, making a movie with religious context has at times created a stir in the country. Hence, the first rule for any filmmaker is to understand the sensitive subject before making any movie. Issues like religion discrimination are something which exists in the country and many Bollywood films have beautifully addressed the issues. Congress leader Shivanand Hulyalkar who is a movie fanatic is of the opinion that movies and religions should be kept apart from each other.
Hulyalkar is a notable name from Congress with a strong educational background. He has completed his B.Com and even holds an MBA degree. Besides this, he has a degree in law is a successful businessman. The Congress leader is into real estate and even has a trading business. He says that movies always inspired him in some or the other way. Furthermore, he reveals that many historical movies, political dramas have created controversy because of the religious sentiments of the people. Movies like ‘My Name Is Khan’, ‘Oh My God’, ‘PK’ and ‘Padmaavat’ created hoopla across the country with people’s religious sentiments being affected. According to Shivanand, movies should be watched as movies and not take it for real.
“Movies are for the sake of entertainment while some are informative. If I were to believe, religious groups should not protest against any movie or director making a historical movie. It is a part of the history which is being told in a cinematic experience. What has happened cannot be undone and history cannot be changed. On the other hand, some movies might be realistic showcasing the truth and people might tend to objectify it. As a student, everyone learns about Indian history. If there were no objections then, the people should not even protest now.” He even stated how celebrities are tortured just because they are a part of the film. The Congress leader lastly said that religious communities have the right to protest if the movie manipulates the facts or historical moments.
