Goa : ‘The Whirlpool’, a Serbian film directed by Bojan Vuk Kosovcevic is a comprehensive metaphor for Serbian Bojan Vuk Kosovcevic 285x300 The Whirlpool is a metaphor for Serbian conflictconflict and struggle.

Its director was speaking at a media conference at the International Film Festival of India in Panaji, when he said that the film was a non-commercial offering.

“Whirlpool is a metaphor of all the incidents that occurred. The film showcases three stories all relating to each other. It’s not a commercial film and every story has a different genre,” he explained.

The film according to the director has three parts. The first of which is a social drama, the second a thriller drama and the last had drama and war fantasy.

“More than the genre the characters and situations are more important,” he says adding that through violence, no good can ever come.

“There were a lot of society clashes during the World War and everything was disintegrating. Yugoslavia and six other countries stood up after the war, but Serbia took a little time,” he said.

Asked about the response to his film Kosovcevic said: “The audiences are responding well but the critics were a little apprehensive and say that I could have made something entertaining or tried comedy rather than touching a topic that was left behind.”

Making a feature film can get taxing, he said, but the reward was worth effort.

Complaining about the lack of funding for films in Serbia, he said, “It is not economically strategic to make films.”

“In Europe, film making is not referred to as ‘film’ but an ‘art’. In America it is called entertainment obviously because the industry is economically big,” he said.
