PiFan hails as the biggest Asian film festival with the broadest spectrum of film genres. Marking its 17th year, this year’s festival will showcase 229 films from 44 countries under the theme of “Love, Fantasy and Adventure”. Films with a unique style and imaginative format will be a feast for the eyes for young movie enthusiasts.

The festival will showcase Reema Kagti’s Talaash, Krishna D.K. and Raj Nidimoru’s Go Goa Gone, Abhishek Kapoor’s Kai Po Che, Gauri Shinde’s English Vinglish along with Anurag Kashyap’s Ugly.

Ugly will be screened under Puchon Choice section, the flagship competition section of the festival. The section offers six awards including 15,000,000 Krw (Inr 7.7 Lakh) Best of Puchon and 10,000,000 Krw (Inr 5 Lakh) Best Director award. There are awards for best actor and best actress besides a jury and audience award. Twelve films are competing for these awards.

Talaash and Go Goa Gone will be screened in the World Fantastic Cinema section. English Vinglish and Kai Po Che will be screened in Vision Express section. The 26 films in this section will compete for NETPAC award for best Asian film.

PiFan held in Puchon, one of the satellite cities of Seoul is famous for its strong support for film and animation industry. Beginning in 1997, Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival (PiFan) had a vision to provide representation to marginalized genres in film. Although all genres such as comedy, drama, and action will be represented, PiFan’s objective is to highlight horror, psycho-thriller, sci-fi, and sexual themed films which are all marginalized in Asia.

PiFan has been introducing more cutting-edge films leading films’ success in Korean market and helping Korean films meeting the international circuit, also established itself as an important forum for diverse spirits of filmmakers and moviegoers.

“Happy Audiences” will range from eccentric costume wearers to the average family, and this is a clear reflection on the various types of films PiFan represents. There will also be a parade, outdoor screenings, concerts, and other festive events to encourage local participation. If this is not enough, “Photo Zone” at the Closing Ceremony, Beer Festival, and Camp PiFan are all there to instigate smiles and create the “Happy Audience” experience.
