Goa : Sala Budha or ‘Stupid Old Man’, a film which has been making waves at the IFFI this year has a bigger takeaway than you thought.
This period film in Oriya deals with the issue of generation gap and is set in a tribal village where “old people think that the young generation is stupid and the young lads think the old generation is stupid”.
“Sala Budha is a film where all the old people think that the young generation is stupid and the young lads think the old generation is stupid,” director Sabyasachi Mohapatra told a media conference held at the IFFI venue.
Generation gap should be bridged, he says, adding that there is much to share between two diverse age groups.
“Older people want to share their experiences with the young generation, but nobody wants to hear them. Is the time we treat them as a great advising force. The film showcases the message,” Mohapatra said. “The film is based on human values with a tribal touch,” he also said.
Mohapatra further said that all the artists, technicians, cameraman, producers, co-producers have worked in big banner films associated with the Hindi film industry.
“The film is mostly shot in the western part of Orissa,” he said that shooting the film was a blast because at the end of every workday, there was a gala blast.
The title role of the film is played by Atal Bihari Panda, an 84-year-old artist.
“I am a dramatist and age does not make a difference when one loves acting or doing something that they love. When I get on stage, I forget everything. I forget the fact that I am 83 years old and feel reversed to 38,” he said at the same media conference.
