Agnieszka Holland Retro: ‘Burning Bush’ has a Biblical reference

Goa : The title for celebrated Czech film ‘Burning Bush’ was inspired from a Biblical incident, maker of the HBO produced film Film maker Agnieszka Holland at a media interaction 300x254 Agnieszka Holland Retro: Burning Bush has a Biblical referenceinformed at a press conference on day four of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI).

Agnieszka Holland, whose films has been nominated for the Academy awards said that it was a phrase from the Bible where God guides Moses’ towards into a symbolic burning bush which symbolizes Goa’s miraculous energy.

 “The title we chose was symbolic. It is a symbol of a freedom fight, which is an essential part of the film,” Holland said at the press conference.

One of the main high points of the Czech freedom struggle she said was the self-immolation by freedom fighters who were protesting “destruction of freedom”.

Commenting on the use of black and white and techni-colour effect, whose use has been widely appreciated by the views, Holland said that she had originally set out to do the film in black and white, but HBO which produced the film insisted that it should be done in colour.

 “We so used the black and white format to show scenes in official areas like police stations and then used soft colour to depict lives of the young,” Holland said.

Burning Bush originally titled Horici Ker film was screened in a retro section dedicated to Agnieszka Holland at the IFFI this year. Other films directed by Holland which were screened are Total Eclipse, Woman Alone and Fever.
