The 62nd Britannia Filmfare Awards 2014 saw the who’s who of the South Industry setting the venue, Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, Chennai, on fire. The young Turks mingled with the old guard and the friendship and the camaraderie across the age and the language divide was a sight to behold indeed. Power-packed performances and inspired hosting was the perfect foil to the winner parade. The grandeur as well as the emotional high made it a night to remember indeed.
Singer Chinmayi and her actor husband Rahul were the perfect emcees and kept the audience on its toes with their ready wit and repartee while a bevy of beauty comprising Meghana Gaonkar, Pranitha, Tamannaah, Parul Yadav, Nikki Galrani, Poorna and Taapsee Pannu regaled with their picture perfect dance moves.
Meghana rocked to Kannada hits like Richie’s Theme, Tiger dance theme and Kakkid banna from Ulidavaru Kandanthe, Pranitha gyrated to Telugu hits like Rakasi from Rabasa, Bapu gari bommu from Attarintiki Daredi, Super machi from Son of Satyamurthy and Tamil songs like Pazhagikalam from Ambala and the popular Mental mandrill female version from OK Kanmani. Tamannaah brought the house down as she grooved to Tamil hits like Troopers from Kakki Sattai, Oyayyea from Ayan, Don U Don U from Maari, Selfie pulla from Kaththi and Telugu songs like Niha from Osaarvile and Notanki from Power. Parul showed off her dancing skills in Kannada songs like Pyarge aagbittaite from Govindaaya Namaha, Aakalbenne from Shravani Subramanya and Gangamma style from Rangan Style. Nikki wowed with Tamil hits like Vandha malla from Darling, Papparapampam from Yegavarayinum Nakaka and Singari sokku lady from Yegavarayinum Nakaka, as also Malayalam hits like Olanjili kuruvi and Nenjile from 1983. Poorna rocked with Malayalam hits like Vasanthamallike from Chandrettan Evideya, Dhan dhan from Rajadhi Raja, Kannil
Nokkathe from Hey Kannil Nokkathe and Sathiyama nee enaku from Tamil film Ethir Neechal. Taapsee was the centre of attraction as she moved to Telugu hits like Vechaani vayasu from Gundello Godari, Pilla machi from Bandhobasthu and Tamil tracks like Vaaya veera and Arslu orslu from Kanchana 2.
It was a moving sight indeed when the audience stood up as one to greet the Lifetime Achievement Award Winner, the fabulous actress for all seasons Radhika. The other winners too in every category were cheered with no less an enthusiasm.
