New York, NY : What/Who: Award-winning writer/director Serena Dykman, NYU Tisch School of the Arts graduate, will screen her fourth short film “Welcome” which has been selected as a finalist at the prestigious American Pavilion Emerging Filmmaker Showcase at the Cannes Film Festival (presented by American Express).
Inspired by true events, the film follows Anna, a young New York-based Czech doctor, who is held at U.S. immigration after a humanitarian trip to Uganda — the day her boyfriend plans to propose to her.
Starring Jandra Dee (recently featured on Inside Amy Schumer) and Randall McNeal (NBC’s Deception, HBO’s Boardwalk Empire), the film examines U.S. immigration and bureaucracy with a heartwarming and personal story that touches a unique aspect of European immigration and the concept of home.
