Mumbai : “Zindagi ke safar mein gujar jaate hai woh makaam, woh fir nahi aate.., a very famous evergreen hit picturized on Bollywood Superstar Rajesh Khanna is proved incorrect by this group of 28 senior citizens, ‘Humming Birds’. This is a senior citizens music group of 28 enthusiastic and talented singers in the age group of 35 – 80 yrs from Mumbai who meet every Sunday afternoon at Amulak Amichand High School, Matunga for singing sessions. They are all set to perform live on Fri. 6th Feb. at Mysore Association Hall, Matunga.
Each individual is a professional or business person or home maker with several pressing commitments. Nevertheless, their sheer passion for music draws them every Sunday for this bonhomie filled sessions. Their utter passion has kept them going together since last 9 yrs and now they have formed a group in the name of ‘Humming Birds’. They are celebrating one year of their association on February 6th, from 7.00 pm by organizing a concert at Mysore Association Hall, Near Maheshwari Udyan, Matunga Central Railway, where they will deliver 28 songs, carefully selected to reflect various genre, accompanied by a professional orchestra.
The group boasts of individuals from various walks of life like Ms. Hema Gandhi, a CSR professional and working towards paraplegic & disabled, Mr. Subodh Ekbote, an Interior Designing Professional and a founder member of Yuvak Biradari (Bharat), a voluntary, youth movement of India since last 35 yrs, Dr. A L Sharada, Director of NGO, Laadli working for women empowerment, Mr. Parthasarathy, an educationist since 40yrs, Mr. Sushil Maheshwari, Managing Trustee of a Charitable Trust and a 80 yr old senior advocate Mr. Yusuf Muchhala and many more. ‘Humming Birds’ intends to pay musical tribute to the great music makers who created evergreen melodies in Bollywood’s golden era and will be performing on songs from 40’s to 80’s period. They will be accompanied by a six piece live orchestra. “We have been together since last 9 yrs and amidst our routine lives, we have kept this fire for singing alive. We ourselves contribute towards all our expenses for practice as well as the show which we are hosting on 6th Feb. Even while we practice, we get many senior citizen visitors who can’t sing, but yet love to hear us performing. We simply intend to showcase our talent amongst masses”, said member Mr. Parthasarathy, Humming Birds Group.
