Bangalore: Celebrating the supremacy of feminine power this Navarathri, Shades of India presents Artist Ritu Gupta’s creative renditions on Goddess Durga through her ‘Divine 
Goddess’ series of paintings. The art exhibition opened at the Karnataka Chitra Kala Parishath with much grandeur with Sandalwood leading actress Shwetha Srivatsav lighting the lamp for the week long exhibition. The art exhibition is on from October 6th 2013 and to October 12th, 2013 between 11.30 am to 7.30 pm.
Beginning as a self-taught artist, Ritu’s development as an artist has been possible purely because of her passion to paint, decorate, explore and express. Her paintings demonstrate the influence of the traditional art and culture in a style that is very much her own. One has to note that the stream of Indian culture paintings and its message can largely traceable in her paintings. Though the works are her way to explore and understand Indian tradition, they begin to reflect the artists understanding of childhood, masculinity, feminity, union and desire.
In the ‘Divine Goddess’ series, Ritu restricted her creativity to a particular school or style centric adaptation. She reminds an authentic (traditional) Indian form in terms of being soft, supple and feminine. She yet again has focused on the backgrounds, detailing and beautiful birds.
This series is devoted to the glorification of Goddess Parvati and therefore articulates the idea that all goddess are but manifestation of Devi Parvati. The Goddess is omnipresent and hence, Ritu manifests the Goddess as the power of universe. She is personification of wisdom, compassion and protection.
Portraying the female energy, the painting hails the Goddess who evolves from fertility figures in the very early centuries when procreation was a priority to elevation as consort of God. Recognition as independent and ubiquitous source of compassion, strength, wisdom as emanations of psyche crested by individual and communities to fulfill a particular need continue to manifest in the paintings.
