Biopics – A Cine experience at American Center

New Delhi: American center in collaboration with Cinedarbar celebrates the filming, depiction and dramatization of the life of an important personage from the past and the present era. The three days ‘Biopic Film festival’ held from 24th-26th July 2014, will showcase prodigious American actors directed by the finest auteurs at the ‘American Center Auditorium’.

Poster 207x300 Biopics   A Cine experience at American CenterThe term ‘Biopics’ is derived from the combination of the words ‘biography’ and ‘pictures’, which gained  hey-day of popularity in the 1930s and are still prominent to this day. Biopics have existed since the earliest days of silent cinema in films dedicated to legendary personalities beginning either from the childhood or highlighting the achievements during their life span. These films put an emphasis on events like war, political or social conditions surrounding the person’s entire life as they escalate to fame and glory.

Oscar winning movie ‘Ed Wood’ by Tim Burton would mark the beginning of the film festival that depicts the life story of the director, producer Edward Davis. The second day of the festival will witness movies like ‘Lenny’ By Bob Fosse dedicated on stand-up-comedian, Lenny Bruce followed by ‘Auto Focus’ based on ‘Hogan’s Heroes.’ The Classic Film Show comes to an end with three popular biographies such as ‘I’m not there’ (2007) by Todd Hayne enlightening the life of Bob Dylan a famous musician, ‘The Insider’ by Michael Mann based on the true story of Jeffery Wigand and ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ by Ridley Scott based on Jordan Belfort. The movie ‘the wolf of the street’ portrays Jordan’s rise to a wealthy stock-broker living the high life to his fall involving crime, corruption and the federal government.

The movie screening will be followed by the interactive sessions about the genre ‘Biopic.’ Speaker’s Unnayan and Anugyan Nag will be sharing interesting knowledge with the audience. Anugyan, a film scholar and an independent Filmmaker is currently a senior research doctoral fellow at the School of Arts and Aesthetics finishing his Ph.D. in Cinema studies from Jawaharlal Nehru University. His films have been nominated, screened and awarded at various National and International Film Festivals. Anugyan would talk about the success of Bob Fosse and the man behind the movie ‘Ed Wood.’ Unnayan, a postgraduate in English literature is a keen theater and cinema enthusiast. He aspires to walk the tight rope that connects cinema to literature, theater to poetry and research to people. He will be talking about Bob Dylan- The man behind the iconic movie ‘I’m not there’ and immense stardom & success gained by ‘Auto Focus.’

Come and explore the documentaries, take away the knowledge about this genre and the icons by attending the interactive sessions on the respective films after the movie screening. You can also win exciting prizes by answering fun quiz questions based on the movies. The entry to the festival is free and is open for general public. Please carry a valid photo ID to enter the American Center.
